This week I started learning the software that I am going to be using to create my projects and eventually, any project. I learned all kinds of things like digitizing, and how long it really takes to create a new design from scratch.
The third project I started this week was a three letter monogram. I digitized this completely on my own after working with mom on the previous two. I have had three letter monograms on countless things as a kid and it's cool to really see how it is made and the effort it takes to do something I always saw as typing in three letters and hitting start. After everything is said and done, I think that this is going to be a really cool project and I can't wait to learn more about something that lets me use my creativity.

For my genius hour project, I am going to learn how to use the embroidery machine in my craft room. It is bigger than a standard machine and can hold up to six colors at a time. I already know how to use the cricut, the sewing machines, and the heat press. This is really the only thing in my craft room that I don't know how to use, and I would love to be able to use it by myself. I have always loved doing crafty things. I have a whole room devoted to it, after all. Crafting is something that my mom and I really like doing together, but we specialize in different things. My comfort zone consists of drawing, sketching, and painting. My mom on the other hand does a lot of embroidery and personalization of just about anything you could imagine. I have wanted to learn how the machine and software work for quite awhile now but never had the time or motivation to do it. Over the course of the semester I plan to achieve my genius hour goal by starting with small projects with my mom as my instructor. I would like to work towards bigger projects as the semester goes on. Along with bigger projects I would like to learn the software to make it one hundred percent my own. My mom has been doing embroidery for over 25 years and is familiar with both the machine and the software. At the end of this project, I would love to have learned the ins and outs of embroidery with the machine and the software/digital design. My goal for genius hour is to have a fun final project that I completed all on my own using a design that I created.
